Swimming
Many juniors join the club as a great way of improving their swimming, which is often considered the most difficult skill to master. We have two coached sessions a week, one held at Hampton Open Air Pool, the other at the newly re-furbished Lady Eleanor Holles.
Juniors are grouped by proficiency across the lanes and coaches have pre-arranged swim sets catering for all abilities. (Unfortunately we can't teach non swimmers to swim which is why we have the basic entrance requirements.)
Running
Unlike adults, it is more difficult for small children to just go for a run however it is a sport where technique improvements can help development. Our juniors have access to up two coached sessions a week.
A weekly track session is held at St. Mary’s University where the coaches focus on speed and technique (age dependent). A couple of Saturday mornings per month are spent on longer runs at either Bushy Park or taking in the hills of Richmond Park.
Cycling
Most children know how to ride a bike but triathlon cycling is different; with skills including learning to ride in a group safely, mounting and dismounting, tight cornering and dead turns.
We run two sessions, a Monday turbo/spin class (age dependent), and a Saturday skills session.
The turbo training session is similar to a spin session but using your own bike: they are held at Hampton Open Air Pool's "The Studio". You will need to bring your own road bike. This session is open to children, who turn 11 in the current year or older.
On Saturdays, the session is focused on cycling, with bike rides either on the closed inner road of Kempton Park or held in the centre of Richmond Park.
You must wear a helmet and bring equipment in case of punctures.
Racing and social events
There are many Junior Triathlons, Aquathlon's and Duathlon's in the London area that members are encouraged to take part in, including our own Thames Turbo Aquathlon. Juniors then score points in our own club championship that runs over a number of events across the season from March to September that climaxes with the Christmas Party and End of Season Awards. There are also other fun events organised for junior members throughout the course of the year including barbecues and Easter Egg hunts!
