After the great and positive response to our virtual duathlon in May, we thought to host a few more virtual races in the coming months as a series. We continue racing this weekend and using the same format as in May. Please read below how it works and what to do to take part:
The format is a 17.6km cycle time trial held on Zwift’s Tempus Fugit course (as part of an event), followed by a real 5km run. To take part, simply complete both events consecutively and post an electronic image/link to your activities along with any club/team representation and age category on email to ThamesTurboResults@gmail.com.
Thames Turbo will then collate and publish a full set of results by Age Category (Open, Over 40s, Over 50s and a team event). This is intended just for fun & honour, but no prizes. So please encourage friends and other triathlon club members to join in.
There are a number of TT races over the weekend run on the Tempus Fugit course, with the possibility of a couple more being added to those already scheduled on Friday and Saturday morning:
- Fri-26-Jun 06:00 https://www.zwift.com/events/view/909788
- Fri-26-Jun 14:00 https://www.zwift.com/events/view/909840
- Fri-26-Jun 18:45 https://www.zwift.com/events/view/909883
- Fri-26-Jun 19:15 https://www.zwift.com/events/view/909895
- Fri-26-Jun 22:00 https://www.zwift.com/events/view/909920
- Fri-27-Jun 10:00 https://www.zwift.com/events/view/911887
For existing Zwift users already registered with ZwiftPower, adding a TTVD (Thames Turbo Virtual Duathlon) suffix will make your results very much easier to collate. For non-Zwift users with a smart trainer, Zwift offers a trial period which should allow you to participate.
The run leg is intended to follow consecutively. We propose giving you a flexible 10-minute window for your transition after your time trial finishes, to starting your run leg. You do not have to start your run at your front door – please get to somewhere safe where you don’t need to cross any main roads. No penalty will be incurred if you’ve followed the spirit of the transition window, though we reserve the right to add 1 minute to your “transition time” for every multiple of 10 minutes over this for obviously non-consecutive activities.
Any details from emails sent to the ThamesTurboResults@gmail.com address will ONLY be used for compiling a set of results and ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT be shared or used for any marketing purposes.
Apologies to those not on Zwift, that we are not able to offer an outdoor cycle equivalent, as this would encourage racing on open roads and/or taking two pieces of outdoor exercise. However, if you wish to do both on consecutive days, please feel free to send in the activities and we’ll send out a non-competitive list of these as well, as well as a separate 5km run result.
HAPPY RACING
