Our summer race season is just starting, but the Winter Series is still to complete

Turbo Sprint Race Marshalling – Mon 4th May

One of our major revenue streams is the entries for our club races & this helps keeps our membership fees down. We make it an ask of ALL our senior members that they make themselves available to marshal at either the Sprint Triathlon (HOP on Mon 4th May) or the Junior & Women Only Aquathlon following (at LEH; will be in June, exact date TBC). Steve and his team do a fabulous job of ensuring our competitors have a great experience & generates positive feedback for the club. We’re certain that if you haven’t marshalled before you’ll find it a rewarding experience https://thamesturbo.co.uk/volunteer

Reminder of the Winter Series finale

This Saturday’s (28th) Bushy Parkrun is the 3rd Run in our winter series to be followed the series finale, a Duathlon at Hillingdon a week on Sunday (8th Mar). Being in March, our official race season, the duathlon itself will also count towards the Club Championships.

A request too; the duathlon will run much more smoothly if we have volunteers to help marshal. If you’re around and available, please come down to support & help marshal – it’ll also add to the atmosphere & camaraderie.

Club Championships (Mar – Oct)

Every time you race in a multi-discipline event, your performance counts towards the Club Championships. For each triathlon distance (and other disciplines – aquathlon, duathlon & aquabike), we take your best performance relative to your respective prize category winner.

In addition, we have two nominated club races in August (winner is the first Turbo over the line) for the Sprint Distance at Thorpe Park https://www.runthrough.co.uk/event/thorpe-park-sprint-triathlon-august-2026 and Standard Distance at Dorney  https://www.dorneylakeevents.com/event/dorney-triathlon-8th-august-2026/

Finally, we have the single discipline events – Bushy Parkrun (best AG%), Hillingdon 10s https://www.westerley.cc/racing/time-trials and 12 length under the lane ropes, 432m swim time trial at HOP (both outright fastest).

The overall club champion is decided by the top 4 scores you post across the 11 disciplines (one of which must be a triathlon).

A spreadsheet explains the full details, but again I request that you fill in the events calendar (or at least notify me) of any events you’re participating in, so I can look out for & record your results (and it makes my life easier if you’ve listed Turbos as your club on your entry),

Kit & sponsorship news

Gabbie (amongst other great kit initiatives) has a batch of the new Turbo Monkey Sox, which many have already sported (see the attached Bushy photo). Dan J & James have been working hard with Precision Hydration to arrange meaningful club discounts. Huge thanks to all involved in kitting out the Turbos.

Race previews

Although this weekend is relatively quiet, next weekend sees Thomas, Katie, Tom & Lowri head over to Italy for the Lago Maggiore half, whilst Jonny & Jimmy run the Kingston Breakfest.

We’ve already seen Angelo & Caoimhe run fine personal bests in the past couple of weeks, along with Tom Piercey turning into a flying chicken for the Hampton Court half (please share your photos!)

All known Parkruns and published results have been added to the attached spreadsheet (and obviously will be updated throughout the season).

Club Socials

This year, at the end of May, we’re hoping to get a London-Paris ride together (logistics will be shared soon in the Bun Run whatsapp group); as well as scheduling another London-Brighton-London and an Isle of Wight randonee.

We will try to coordinate with Wendy to get a Turbo Pacing takeover (16th May), repeat the Halloween Relays & Beer Mile and hopefully get another stonking turnout for the Cabbage Patch.

As well as Julian’s Ham Lake relays, Angelo has volunteered to put on another Pizza night at HOP (though earlier in the season to catch the longer, warmer nights – we’re investigating a Shepperton relay swim option to mark the 100th anniversary of Trude Ederle’s historic Channel Crossing https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5177114/) and we’re looking to hire the giant inflatable at HOP on the Thursday after Roth to get the whole club (juniors & seniors) together)

One event we haven’t done in recent years is the National Relay Champs in Nottingham, 29th Aug. I’d wager pulling a team of 4 together from likes of Jess, Chloe, Izzy, Katie, Rosie, Nicole or Natalie, we’d give any club in the country a run for their money (as well as turning in a competitive mens and vets team) https://www.trisociety.co.uk/events/triathlon-relay-championship.html

As always, if there’s an event or activity that you feel would be fun to do as a club, please suggest it; we're a better club with more people actively contributing.
