Turbo takeover of Bushy Pacing duties – Sat 2nd May
This Saturday we have the wonderful opportunity to showcase our club to a target audience, demonstrating that we’re welcoming and encouraging to athletes of all abilities. We still NEED pacers to fill all the slots beyond 30 mins – these are actually more important than the 20 min slots.
We want to see as many Turbos, of all ages, in kit before the start and at the finish – and offering lots of encouragement in between.
Marathon efforts
The London marathon never disappoints (even when it does, it really doesn’t). Some fabulous reasons for running; incredible stories of those to even make the start line.
Huge congratulations to Scott 2:53, Chloe 3:06, Josh 3:07, Thomas 3:08, Jonny 3:28, Maria 3:34, Lauren 3:42, Callum 3:44, Billy 4:15, Kevin 5:06. Heroes – the lot of you. I won’t be alone within the cheer squad to have no voice at all today – another Herculean effort from the support crew.
Getting into the London Marathon is not easy. The ballot for 2027 is now open, but please read the England Athletics section below for your best chance of getting a place.
Massive congratulations to Angelo, who broke the 3 hour mark with a 2:58 in the Shakespeare Marathon around Stratford.
Elsewhere, Denis completed his first triathlon in Woking; Sarah turned in a superb effort in the Mallorca 167, where Thomas O went one further, completing the 312 in 13 hours. Respect.
After our busy week, many of us will be out in Mallorca to celebrate everything Turbo at the 70.3.
Cycle groups for all
To reiterate, it’s been great to see the increased numbers joining the club rides on Sundays. But we’re aware that we have less confident cyclists who have been reticent to join (worried about the average pace in some cases or familiarity of cycling in groups in others).
Starting on Sun 10th May (and hopefully monthly), we will be running a slow bun run – aimed at those wanting to build their confidence. If you think this would benefit you, please sign up. If you’ve benefitted from others coaxing you up to speed, please spare one ride a month to help others. It would be great to get a cohort together (whilst faster groups can time their coffee stop to meet up).
