Lots to celebrate & to look forward to

I’ll start with our incredible women.

This weekend saw 4 women competing & smashing it out of the park.

Nicole, finally, finally, got the reward she has so richly deserved. Her awesome AG 2nd place in the Hamburg Ironman, in a massive PB time of 10:24, secured her place at Kona (to join Caz). Beej produced a storming performance to finish AG 6th at Bolton 70.3 (again reaping the reward for her dedication to training), whilst Lindsay produced a storming 1:36 half marathon to cap a fine Switzerland 70.3. Also on Sunday, Izzy took on the Chester Standard World Championship qualifier, finishing a sensational 3rd overall (and obviously securing her 2027 spot).

Dmitrij finished a fine 12th at the Grafman 70.3, whilst at the Cotswold 113, not just one Bateman, but Mark & Spencer Bateman, performing admirably at the in the middle distance aquabike & triathlon respectively.

On Sunday, we hosted our Junior Aquathlon, which served as a qualifier for the Borough Games. We had 161 participants on the day, our highest figure for a decade, including 40 junior Turbos. Notable performances from Daisy, winning the Youth category & podium finishes for Sebastian, Rafi, Sam, Alice, Poppy & Claudia. Big thanks to Steve, Phil, Jonathan & the team for putting on the smooth running of the event & ensuring everyone enjoyed themselves.

We also have the Dylan Howells Foundation fundraising aquathlons on Thurs 25th June. This replaces the regular swim session. We are asking for a £10 donation to cover food & drink with any proceeds going to the https://dylanhowellsfoundation.org/ set up in memory of a former member.

Please could you sign up in advance Member event details so we know the numbers for catering.

Last Wednesday we took 3 women’s teams and 4 men’s teams to the Parkland Relays in Richmond Park, with noteworthy success. Another fabulous Turbo evening.

Both the Women’s and Men’s teams finished 5th overall, with our leading Women’s & Men’s Vets teams finishing 3rd & 5th respectively (again our best finishes in over a decade).

Individually Atharv’s run was the fastest individual leg by anyone for a decade and only a handful of seconds off the course record. Our women’s team of Chloe, Jess & Katie recorded 3 of the fastest 5 legs I’ve got recorded since 2018, their combined time 51:57, beat our previous women’s team best by over 4 minutes.

What makes the Parkland Relays runs more remarkable was, more many, they followed 3 days after our epic London to Paris and back in a weekend cycling adventure. 570 km in under 24 hours of cycling, 2 ferries, too little sleep. The collective achievement of getting all 16 cyclists who set out, safely back to Hampton Court, without a single bale out, is one worthy of celebration. For many, Saturday was their longest ride – only to be eclipsed again on Sunday. Huge thanks owing to Caz for her logistics planning & James for making it happen. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZDox-YxKqE

Since the last update, we’ve also had Andrew, Alex, Gordon, Alan, Teresa, Emily, Jack & Lindsay in various multi-sport action. I hope I’ve captured all of your results faithfully; please check https://thamesturbo.co.uk/club-champs on the Results tab of the “click here” link to confirm.

We’ve also got a busy week ahead. Pier & Caoimhe heading to Tarragona for the European Championships, Jack, Mark & Amy heading to Klagenfurt for Ironman Austria, Eamonn to the Loire Valley for IM Tour Metropole. New member, Dave Pattie, joins Rob & Guy at Windsor, Alex takes on the Dragon Ride, whilst Chris takes on the 5km Great North Swim.

Good luck Turbos. Be awesome.
