The club training strategy is led by our head coach – Ralph Hydes (Level 3). He and our team of coaches are responsible for designing and delivering training sessions throughout the year. Training is periodised across the year to optimise performance in the race season. All of our coaches are BTF qualified at Level 1, 2 or 3 or equivalent. It is mandatory that they hold relevant DBS certificates and are first aid trained.
Senior members are offered coached and independent sessions. For safety reasons all junior sessions are coached. All training sessions are included as part of full membership.
Swimming:
Seniors:
Our seniors swim twice a week at Hampton Open Air Pool. Both of these sessions are coached.
During the winter months a self directed swimming session is offered at Hampton Open Air Pool. In the summer months, and suitable for race season, this is converted to a club funded swim at Shepperton Open Water Swim.
Juniors:
The luxurious facilites at Lady Eleanor Holles School are home to one of our junior swim sessions every week. The second junior swimming set takes place at Hampton Open Air Pool.
Both seniors and juniors swim on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for coached training sessions.
Cycling:
Seniors:
Our senior members meet on Zwift on Monday evenings. This offers the flexibility of selecting different routes every ride as well as some healthy competition with your clubmates.
Those who do not have access to Zwift are welcome to join the Zoom turbo session on Mondays at 7pm.
Sunday usually sees the Turbos head off in groups of similarly paced riders. The more the merrier when it comes to Sunday rides as there is more likely to be someone of a similar standard when more members come along. The group usually splits into groups dependent on speed but often plan to meet at a coffee stop, the faster riders simply riding further to get there. Even if there is a small group there is one rule on group rides: ‘no one gets dropped’. Never feel you are too slow to join in, you may be surprised and even if you are the slowest you can only get better – be your best. For more on Club Rides HERE.
Juniors:
We currently offer a virtual turbo trainer session hosted on Zoom on a Monday night. This allows parents an opportunity to see how their kids train but also eliminates the need to do another drop off when homework also needs to be done!
Throughout the year Juniors have cycle sessions on the closed roads at Kempton Park. Information regarding weekend training is sent to parents on a quarterly basis.
Running:
Seniors and Juniors:
Weekly coached running sessions take place at local park venues. Sessions are designed to build both endurance and speed. They are suitable for all members regardless of ability.
Juniors:
Juniors have weekend running sessions in Richmond Park or Bushy Park. Details of the quarterly plan including these sessions is emailed to parents in advance.
On-Line Offering:
We have a talented pool of coaches with lots of qualifications and hugely interesting sports backgrounds. We understand the need to cross train for strength and flexibility and also the need to look after your mind and your soul to recover. Recovery is a time where all those training sessions are converted into a performance gain. Recognising triathletes need more than to simply swim, bike and run we offer a circuits class and yoga class once per week.
Phew! That is one action packed schedule.
